What learning points can we, as investors with a family business background, offer private investors?
We get asked this a lot. However, it is not always easy to explain what you have learned over decades in a few sentences. Nevertheless, we have put together seven principles below that we would like to pass on to every investor:
- Invest – don’t speculate
- Focus on the long term – don’t nervously tremble and lose yourself in short term trading
- Find a solutions for all your (liquid) assets – don’t just put a fraction of them to work
- Set conscious realistic goals – don’t cultivate illusory expectations
- Diversify – don’t gamble
- Have a steady hand and have a great of humility for market movements – don’t indulge in hectic with exuberance
- Define a clear investment processes – don’t shoot from the hip
- Find your own solution and your own team… for calmness, consistency and long-term success
